Functional behavior assessment3/27/2023 Who Conducts Functional Behavior Analysis? To help children with their problem behaviors we have to understand the effect their problem behavior is having on the environment, i.e the consequence of their behavior.Extraordinary behaviors develop and are maintained under ordinary conditions. All problem behaviors are a function of environmental conditions.Problematic behaviors serve a purpose for the child. The other assumptions related to problematic behavior are: The Fundamental assumption of functional behavior analysis is that the problem behavior is learned, like any other behavior. Functional analysis: In functional analysis, the problematic behavior of a person is directly observed and some variables in the environment are systematically manipulated.Īssumption Of Functional Behavioral Analysis. Descriptive assessment: In this type of assessment the behavior is observed directly in a natural setting without manipulating any variable. The assessment is done through rating scales, questionnaires, and interviews. Indirect assessment: In indirect assessment no observation of behavior takes place. There are the following three main types of functional assessments: It stands for Antecedent-Behavior-consequence. The important concept on which the entire FBA is based on the ABC model of behavior. There is also an important humanistic reason for conducting a functional assessment of behavior, it explores why the person is engaging in problematic behavior before formulating their treatment rather than being inconsiderate of their experiences and prevailing conditions. Identifying these factors will help us identify an effective treatment that is precise, personally relevant, and humane to treat severe problematic behaviors. For example, understanding why the child regularly throws tantrums. Functional analysis of behavior (FAB) is a form of an assessment conducted by behavior analysts in which they identify the variables/ factors that influence the problematic behavior, usually in children.
